“EBL is the biggest league with 24 teams competing every fortnight to be crowned Ekurhuleni Champions,” said Seaparo Ramaube, Head Coach and Treasurer.
“Our focus as a club has allowed us to be the biggest club in Germiston.”
Teams that participated in the league included Edenvale Lions, Katlehong Bulls, Norkem Park Spartans, Leondale Chronix, Bedfordview High and Germiston City Wolves.
“Players were eager to get back on the pitch and it saw this year’s league attract teams from as far away as Soweto Rising Owls, Malvern Jumpers and Dainfern College,” Seaparo explained.
The first match of the day began with the hosts Germiston City Wolves playing against the Malvern Jumpers.
Nerves got the better of the hosts and they lost their first game.
Both the u-14 and u-19 sides rallied amazingly to win their second games in convincing fashion later in the day.
Edenvale Lions u-19 gave the most impressive display of skill of the day, beating the Spartans (Norkem Park) by 50 points.
“It was a great start to the league and we plan to grow from here. We plan to use all six basketball courts and host as many games as we are based at Germiston Stadium,” Seaparo said.
