DBO Fatorda and Sharada Mandir Win Youth Basketball Championship

PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, thanks to the outstanding performances of Kayden D’Silva (19 points) and Bradley Barreto (10 points) recorded a 37-22 landslide victory over Don Bosco High School, Panjim, to win the young boys team title, at the State Youth Basketball Championships, held at the Miramar Youth Hostel on Saturday.
Tanay Saldanha and Joshua Pinheiro were the best players in the finalist team.
In the girls section, Sharada Mandir High School, Miramar won the title in a dominating 28-4 win over Sonics. Sarah Hussain (15 points) after her good performance in the semi-finals was again chosen by the players of the winning team.
The two-day championship organized by the Panjim Basketeers Club under the aegis/in conjunction with the Goa Basketball Association and Miramar Youth Hostel, was a selection tournament to shortlist the probables of the Goa team for the upcoming championships Youth Nationals to be held in Indore, MP in December.
Sarah Hussain (girls) and Kayden D’Silva emerged as Most Valuable Players (MVPs) of the Finals as well as the Championships. Tanay Saldanha was named Joint Finals MVP for her consistent performance for Don Bosco Panjim, while Norah Martins (Sharada Mandir) was named MVP for her good play for the girls winners.
