Fila Launches ‘Semi-Pro’ Collection With Grant Hill 2 Shoe – Footwear News

Fila has partnered with Warner Bros. to spotlight “Semi-Pro,” the 2008 basketball comedy starring Will Ferrell.

In the film, Ferrell’s character Jackie Moon coaches and plays for the fictional Flint Tropics team during a merger between the NBA and the American Basketball Association (ABA). The film also stars Woody Harrelson, André Benjamin – better known as André 3000 of the iconic rap duo Outkast – and Maura Tierney.

Based on the uniforms of the Tropics, the heritage athletic brand The new collection highlights the team’s base colors of teal and orange across a range of athleisure. A hooded teal sweatshirt features the Tropics logo, while a classic white t-shirt gets a sporty edge thanks to the ‘Moon’ and ’33’ print – a reference to Ferrell’s protagonist. Contrast stripe basketball shorts complete the line, giving it a truly athletic, court-ready finish.

The Fila x “Semi-Pro” capsule is completed with the iconic Grant Hill 2 sneakers, featuring rounded toes, ridged soles, a lace-up silhouette, and leather and synthetic uppers highlighted in the original style. The entire collab comes in the upholstered style in two colorways – black and white – embossed with the Tropics logo.

Adding to the overall sporty nature are teal and orange accents, as well as sock liners printed with “Semi-Pro” and Fila’s own logos – bringing a graphic touch to the basketball shoe.

Hill himself also stars in the accompanying campaign video, wearing the capsule jersey as a tribute to Moon.

The collection arrives just in time for the fall season, with the full “Semi-Pro” x Fila range launching on Fila’s website October 25. The capsule’s Grant Hill 2 sneakers will be specifically launched on the Fields Sports and Foot Locker Sitesas well as select outlets for both stores, later in November as well.
