Former BYU guard Nick Emery reflects on his basketball career in Instagram post
Former BYU Cougars guard Nick Emery was one of the most controversial players to go through the program and often criticizes the university after his nasty split concluded in 2019, but on Sunday a message from him on Instagram about his basketball career had a very different tone, although BYU was not mentioned.
“This morning I woke up and couldn’t stop thinking about my basketball days,” he wrote in a caption that accompanied three photos of him during his time with the Cougars. “Even though I miss high level competition every day, I learned so many lessons. It’s amazing what sport teaches you and if you work hard you will be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. head.
“My basketball days are over. I always thought my life would be playing professional basketball somewhere, but I finally decided that being a father and a husband meant so much more to me. It’s amazing how much I use my basketball days and the lessons I learned there in everyday life now.
Emery now lives in Idaho with his wife Jenna and three children. He and his wife own a phone case business and donate a day’s worth of sales every month to a family in need.
“My background was very different from most others, but I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world!”, concludes Emery. “Remember the times that built who you are today, because every trial and hardship leads to something bigger and better. I’m grateful for those days and grateful for where my life is now!
