Gators men’s basketball escapes with another win as they beat Ole Miss in OT – ESPN 98.1 FM

The Florida men’s basketball team hosted the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday afternoon in their second meeting of the regular season.

Men’s Gators Football (15-8, 5-5)

The Gators are coming off a tough road win, beating Missouri 66-65. This game against the Rebels marks their second and last meeting of the regular season. The first time these two teams met was on January 24 when the Gators fell to Ole Miss 70-54.

In another play on the wire, the Gators hosted Colin Castleton back in the starting lineup after missing six games with a shoulder injury. As well Niels Lane made his first starting lineup debut for the season.

Florida opened the game with a three-pointer from guard Tyree Appleby who tweaked his leg early in the game but reviewed his possessions later. The Gators finished the first half trailing Ole Miss 30-21. Florida shot 36% from the field in the first half.

Florida opened the second half by cutting Ole Miss’s nine-point lead by two, 30-28. The Gators have proven throughout the season that they are a second-half team as they battle to come back.

Kowacie Reeves hit two consecutive big corner threes to also give the Gators momentum to Myreon Jones with his own to help aid the Gators’ comeback in the second half of regulation. However, Ole Miss refused to give up as Ty Fagan hit a floater with 58.8 left in the second half to force overtime against the Gators. Where 10 lead changes throughout this game.

Florida went into overtime on a 9-0 run, also entering another free throw battle as Appleby hit two much-needed ones from the line late in overtime to seal their 62-57 victory over Ole Miss. . Appleby finished the game with a double-double, 10 points and 10 assists. As a collective, Florida shot 71% from the strip.

Colin Castleton led the way for the Gators with 17 points and 8 rebounds in his opener as Phlandrous Fleming Jr. added 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Ole Miss Basketball Men 12-11 (3-7 SEC)

Ole Miss drops to 3-7 in SEC play after the loss. Three players have landed in double figures for the Rebels Tye Fagan leads the way with 15 points and 5 rebounds Matthew Murrel adding 14, and Nysier Brooks with 11.
