Green and Carter earn All-MVC Men’s Basketball honors
ST. LOUIS— UNI Guard AJ Green and forward Noah Carter were named All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) team selections, as announced Tuesday by the league office. Green was selected to the conference first team, while Carter earned second team honors. Teams from all conferences were elected by league head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.
Tuesday’s announcement marks the seventh time UNI have won a league first-team cap under the head coach Ben Jacobson. Carter also becomes the eighth second-team selection to the program by MVC in the past 16 seasons.
Green, who was named league player of the year and All-MVC first team during the preseason, earns his third career all-conference honor after being named to the first team in 2020 and third team in 2019. Carter earns her first all-conference career honor from VMC.
Green led the MVC this season with 21.2 league points per game while averaging 37.2 minutes per game. The Cedar Falls, Iowa native posted a league-best 94.2% mark from the free throw line in conference games only, and scored more than 30 points in 4 games this year, including 3 in MVC game. Green’s stellar shot on the charity strip was highlighted by a streak of 48 consecutive free throws, a personal best that tied the fifth-longest streak in MVC history. One of the best ranged shooters in the league, Green also led the conference with 52 three-point field goals, a league action 3.1 average.
Carter ranked fifth in scoring in MVC play with 17.1 points per game, scoring 15 or more points in 14 of UNI’s 18 conference games. The Dubuque, Iowa native scored a career-high 33 points on Jan. 19 at Valparaiso in his third career double-double during a breakout season that saw his average of season score improve by 3.6 points over the previous year. Carter has shot an impressive 49.2% from the field this season and made 85 free throws, second only to AJ Green on the stat sheet, while also averaging 4.0 rebounds per game and a team-best 12 blocks.
Green, Carter and the entire UNI men’s basketball team will be back in action on Friday, March 4 as the Panthers open play at the MVC Tournament in St. Louis at 12 p.m. CT. The top-seeded Panthers will face the winner of Thursday night’s opener between Illinois State and Indiana State at the Enterprise Center.
