It’s basketball time: Spurs vs Pelicans
Welcome to the Game Thread. Game Thread veterans know how we do things here, but for any newbies, we have a few rules. Our Community Rules apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
Spurs ended last season with a loss to the Pelicans in the Play-In tournament, which I like to call the “I can’t believe this isn’t the playoff tournament.” The Pelicans look stronger this year with the return of Zion Williamson and have been very good in their two preseason games so far. The Spurs are 0-2, but the loss to the Magic is mostly due to Pop putting together a team of guys who probably won’t make the roster in the final minutes because they have, predictably squandered the lead on Magic’s starting lineup. I expect Coach Popovich to approach today’s pre-season contest with the same sense of urgency, meaning it will be a learning and training opportunity. for guys who need it, and a chance for players trying to make it in the league to gain experience facing top-level competition.
Don’t look at the score and you’ll be fine. As this is a pre-season game it will not be shown on local TV, but you can find it on the Spurs app or the Pelicans website. If you have a league pass, the NBA app tells me it will be available on the league pass. So far, that’s been true on one of two occasions I’ve been told that this season, so the chance of it being true is about 50%. If it’s on LP, there won’t be a local blackout because it’s not televised. The Revolution will not be televised, and neither will Spurs’ pre-season games.
Game prediction:
Zion Williamson will eat a Muffaletta while dipping the ball with his other hand in pregame warmups. [NOTE: this is my second consecutive food-related game prediction. It’s still preseason.]
One last word :
Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
