Mamukelashvili and Gill to compete in 2021 NBA Summer League
LAS VEGAS – Seton Hall Men’s Basketball Alumni Sandro Mamukelashvili and Romaro Gill are participating in the 2021 NBA MGM Resorts Summer League, which runs August 8-17 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Mamukelashvili competes with the Milwaukee Bucks, who just signed him with an NBA Two-Way contract, and Gill competes with the Los Angeles Lakers.
NBA Summer League games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks as well as on NBA TV. A full list of games featuring the Mamukelashvili Bucks and Gill Lakers is below. Each NBA Summer League team will play four games. The two teams with the best records will play for the championship on Tuesday, August 17 at 9 p.m. EST on ESPN. The other 28 teams will play a fifth game in the consolation round.
On July 29, Mamukelashvili was the 54th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft; he was technically selected by the Indiana Pacers, but his rights, along with the rights of 60th overall pick Georgios Kalaitzakis were immediately traded to the Bucks for the rights of 31st overall pick, Isaiah Todd.
2021 BIG EAST Player of the Year, Haggerty Award Metropolitan Player of the Year and Honorable All-America Selection, Mamukelashvili enjoyed a thriving four-year career with the Pirates, helping the team reach the NCAA tournament. in 2018 and 2019 and to win the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship in 2020 before COVID-19 cancels the NCAA tournament race from Seton Hall. He became the 45th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, and he finished his career 38th all-time with 1,100 points and 20th all-time with 651.
Gill began his professional career last year playing in the NBA G League with the Salt Lake City Stars, the Utah Jazz affiliate. He appeared in 12 games for the Stars and recorded 21 blocks. He was 11th in the G League in regular season blocks per game at 1.8.
BIG EAST 2020 Defensive Player of the Year and BIG EAST’s Most Improved Player, Gill has become a force in the paint and one of the nation’s most feared rim protectors at Seton Hall. He was the BIG EAST blocks and field goal percentage champion in 2020, and finished in the nation’s top 10 in blocks. His 95 blocks in 2019-20 were the fourth in Seton Hall’s single-season history, and in less than two full seasons he ended his career at Seton Hall with 129 career blocks, good for the seventh in all time in school history.
