Men’s basketball program finalized with the addition of eight non-conference games

Portland State’s men’s basketball program finalized its 2021-22 season schedule with the addition of eight non-conference games to the previously released league schedule.

PSU will have a balanced roster of 14 home games and 14 road games with the Big Sky Conference tournament at the end of the season. The non-conference game includes two games with opponents from Big West and one game each against the Pac-12, Big 12, Mountain West and West Coast conferences. The Big Sky conference will return to its regular schedule this season with the 20-game round robin format.

The Vikings will play four at home and four away during the non-conference game in November and December. PSU opens with Oregon State on the Road Nov. 9. The Vikings and Beavers played a decided game in the dying seconds last season as OSU claimed a 67-62 victory at Corvallis. The Beavers went on to reach Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament.

PSU then hosts three consecutive home games until mid-November. The Vikings will face lower division opponents Evergreen State (November 12) and George Fox (November 17) in their first two games at the Viking Pavilion.

The big non-conference home game is the annual meeting with the University of Portland, rival Crosstown. The Vikings welcome the Pilots on November 23. UP beat PSU 86-73 last season at the Chiles Center.

The state of Portland will have a very first meeting with Iowa on November 26.

After an early start to playing the Big Sky Conference on the road on December 2-4, PSU returns to non-conference gaming, hosting Cal Poly from the Big West Conference on December 11.

The Vikings also play at CSUN of the Big West (December 18) and Utah State of the Mountain West (December 21) just before Christmas.

The Big Sky game opening weekend includes road games in Idaho State and Weber State on December 2-4. The Vikings do not return to the league until December 30. At this point, they are playing six of eight home conference games through January 27. A four-of-five stretch of the road runs through mid-February, then the Vikings end the Big Sky game with three of the last five at home.

Once again, the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament will take place in Boise, ID at Idaho Central Arena.

Portland State will have five home games Thursday, four home games Saturday and one home game Monday on the Big Sky schedule. Right now, PSU expects the games to be open to all fans.

This season, all Big Sky Conference games will be broadcast live on ESPN +.

The Head Coach Jase coburn begins his first season at the helm of the Viking program. Coburn has been an assistant and associate head coach at PSU for eight years.
