NGO launches basketball camp in Nasarawa State – Voice of Nigeria

A non-profit organization, the Jordan Nwora Foundation (JNF), has launched a basketball camp in Nasarawa State, north-central Nigeria, as the foundation’s chairman, Anthony Nwora, s declared ready to partner with Nasarawa State Government to develop basketball talent.
JNF President Nwora said this at a special reception held in honor of the Foundation and its members in Lafia, the state capital, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Nasarawa State in collaboration with the Andoma Foundation.
He said JNF leverages the power of sport to improve the lives of underprivileged children around the world. JNF founder Jordan Nwora is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player who last played for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks. He also plays for the Nigeria men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers.
At the Andoma de Doma Palace, the Supreme Sovereign and Grand Patron, North-central Basketball Association, HRH. Alh. Dr. Aliyu Ahmadu Ogah Onawo appreciated the leadership of Jordan Nwora Foundation in finding sanctuary in Nasarawa State.
“We strive to inspire confidence, growth and development in children by providing camps and resources that emphasize the importance of education, healthy living and sports,” declared the president of the JNF.
“Nasarawa State has expressed interest in youth development through basketball, they have also expressed interest in the foundation to be here today. We are happy to be here and hope that it won’t be the last time.
“Along with the coaches we have brought over from the United States to teach the game, we also need to train the coaches who will support these practices for the kids. So that while we have time, they maintain the legacy we left in them,” Nwora added.
Niagara Community College of New York assistant coach Nicolas Sepe said Nasarawa State is blessed with an array of talent that can rule the basketball world, which forced the team to choose North Central State.
In response, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Lucky Yargwa, thanked the Foundation and its members for choosing to partner with the State in the development of talent and basketball.
“On behalf of the state government and the good people of the state, I welcome you to the land of unlimited opportunity,” Yargwa, said. “Our joy today knows no bounds for what you have brought here is unparalleled and any reasonable government will jump on it.
“This administration aims to harness and develop talent to appear on the catwalk, but the government is overloaded and overwhelmed with many other activities, which makes it quite difficult to achieve all our set goals.”
“But with your coming today, it’s a huge burden lifted, in part, from the government. Our Principal, the Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule continues to emphasize partnership with relevant stakeholders and organizations to help achieve the mantra “Exceed All Expectations”, and there is no better way to achieve this than the one we are witnessing today. ‘today’, Yargwa added.
“We are happy that you have come and rest assured that the government will give you all the support you need to implement your program here.”
