Ottawa’s Lloyd Pandi named to FIBA ​​World Cup fifth window training camp roster

Pandi was named U Sports Player of the Year in 2022 and won his second national championship in as many seasons with the Carleton Ravens in April.

Canada Basketball has announced the 16 athletes who will attend training camp for the Senior Men’s National Team ahead of the fifth window of the 2023 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

The roster includes Lloyd Pandi of Ottawa.

Pandi was named U Sports Player of the Year in 2022 and won his second national championship in as many seasons with the Carleton Ravens in April.

In his first U Sports season in 2019-20, Pandi was named Rookie of the Year.

Pandi already has two years of professional basketball experience with the Ottawa BlackJacks and Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

He was named CEBL U Sports Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021.

Trae Bell-Haynes, Melvin Ejim, Aaron Best, Kadre Gray, Jahvon Henry-Blair, Kenny Chery, Thomas Kennedy, Owen Klassen, Conor Morgan, Jean-Victor Mukama, Prince Oduro, Kassius Robertson, Thomas Scrubb, Phil Scrubb and Kalif Young will practice before Canada hosts its next two games in Edmonton.

Notable names from previous qualifying windows in Victoria and Hamilton as well as some players involved in the AmeriCup, such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dwight Powell, Kelly Olynyk, Dalano Banton and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, are unavailable during this window due to National Basketball Association (NBA) Commitments.

Canada, ranked 15th in the world in the FIBA ​​World Rankings, will face Venezuela on November 10 at 9:10 p.m. Eastern (ET) / 6:10 p.m. Pacific (PT) before hosting Panama November 13 at 7 p.m.: 10 p.m. ET / 4:10 p.m. PT. Both games will take place at the Edmonton Expo Centre.
