PREVIEW: Men’s basketball heads to Stony Brook for conference game
ORONO, ME- The University of Maine men’s basketball team heads to Stony Brook where they face the Seawolves on Saturday January 8th.

A LOOK AT BLACK BEARS:
The Black Bears just suffered a slim loss in Game 1 of the conference, a 69-66 loss to the NJIT.
Maine were led offensively by Sam ihekwoaba, who posted a career-high 18 points and 6 rebounds, earning him an America East Rookie of the Week. Ihekwoaba shot 8-14 from the field and also delivered an assist.
Ja’Shonte Wright-Mcleish (13 pts, 8reb) and Byron Ireland (11 pts, 3 reb) were the main contributors to the narrow loss.
The Black Bears find themselves with one of the toughest teams to score in Eastern America, placing fifth in the conference with 66.7 points per game this season. Maine also sits fourth in the conference in interceptions per game (8.1), which earns them a national ranking of 75th.
Sam ihekwoaba comes in as the player to watch, having lost 18 pts on his conference debut. LeChaun DuHart is also a key player for the Black Bears, currently leading the team in PPG at 8.8.
A LOOK AT STONY BROOK
The Seawolves enter their clash against the Black Bears after a win over Farmingdale State on Dec. 29, an 87-57 victory. Tykei Greene (20 pts, 12 reb, 4 y) was the best player of the competition for Stony Brook. Jahlil Jenkins (15 pts, 3 reb, 5 a) and Jaden Sayles (13 pts, 5 reb, 2a) were the main contributors to the winning effort.
Jenkins is heading into the game against Maine as his team’s top scorer, averaging 14.6 PPG. Anthony Roberts is second with 14.3 PPG and Greene is third with 11.0 PPG and first with 7.5 rebounds per game.
The Seawolves are atop America East with 3PT field goals scored at 115. They are also ranked 7th nationally in fouls per game average (13.2), which places them second in conference. Stony Brook, like the Black Bears, sits near the peak in interceptions per game, 66th nationally at 8.2 per game, which is second in the conference. They are 43rd for the fewest turnovers per game at 11.2, good for fourth in East America.

Maine and Stony Brook meet for the 41st time on Saturday, with the Seawolves holding a 25-15 record over the Black Bears.
