REG gets break from local league to focus on BAL | The new times

The Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) has granted Rwanda Energy Group (REG) a break from the national basketball league to help them focus on the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2022 qualifiers which will start at Kigali from the 21st to the 28th next month.

On Monday, REG began their first residential training camp as they prepare for the playoffs, and they’ll expect to fly the country’s flag high when the action begins.

The team qualified for the last eight playoffs last month after putting up some incredible performances that saw them top the Sahara Conference.

Jabo told this newspaper that the local league will continue with the other teams, but REG will not participate until after the BAL playoffs.

Currently, REG sits fourth in the local league with 21 points and two games to complete the first round.

REG’s residential camp is hosted at Onomo in Kigali, while training takes place at the Kigali Arena under the guidance of American coach Robert John Pack Jr.

REG will face Cameroon’s Armed Forces and Police (FAP) basketball club in the round of 16.
