TNT sees low turnover in League 3 in Game 4 win over SMB

JAYSON CASTRO scored 26 points as TNT Tropang Giga defeated San Miguel Beer, 100-87, on Sunday to tie the best of seven Championship Series at 2-2 in the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

San Miguel Beer trailed just 2-0 as Tropang Giga, rebounding from a disappointing 100-108 overtime loss in Game 3 last Friday, got off to an 18-9 start and never looked back .

TNT posted their biggest lead ever at 34-16 with Castro shooting 10 of 13 from the field to feature prominently in his side’s attack.

“We played very aggressively and the energy in the room tonight was so high,” Castro told reporters. “Maybe it’s because our executions last time were too slow and our defense was passive. So coach [Chot Reyes] told us to be more aggressive tonight than last time. I think that’s the reason.

Roger Pogoy scored 21 points, while Mikey Williams had 15 points and six assists and Kelly Williams contributed 14 points and seven rebounds for the Tropang Giga, who hailed the return of head coach Chot Reyes from his duties in the national team in Beirut.

TNT committed just three turnovers, an all-time low in the league, while San Miguel Beer had 15. The Tropang Giga turned those mistakes by Beermen into 15 points with TNT’s bench ahead of their rivals, 41-22 .

JP Erram added eight points, eight rebounds and two blocks also for TNT.

June Mar Fajardo, who received her conference MVP award before the game, had 20 points and 19 rebounds. He amassed 1,119 points to beat CJ Perez (776), Mikey Williams (610) and Scottie Thompson (468) and Japeth Aguilar (415) of Ginebra.

Game 5 will take place at 5:45 p.m. also at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
