You wouldn’t imagine Steph Curry being intimidated by anything, let alone his golf game.

The Warriors star’s obsession with golf is well known, but he admits there could be an intimidating factor to playing on the greens, especially at golf’s preeminent event.

Steph described some of the comparisons when it comes to the outside noise involved in NBA basketball and professional golf. Or the lack of it when it comes to the Ryder Cup.

“It’s tough, because if I was on the free throw line, and you know it’s deadly silent after 19,000 fans go crazy, then it just goes quiet. As if that would bother me a bit. But for these guys, like you said, the atmosphere when you step out on the first tee and hear all the fans go crazy, ”Steph said on The Golf Channel on Friday. “They give you the sounds you make for your training swing and then it goes down. I can’t imagine what that adrenaline rush looks like, and you have to shoot one down the fairway on that tee shot is probably a great memory for all of these guys.

Steph covers the Ryder Cup as an insider, but his love for golf is ultimately part of the reason he’s here.

“I know we fans think that it would probably be one of the hardest things to do in the game of golf is to hit a tee in front of so many fans,” said Curry.

Steph said he would be sitting on the bench during one of his games and thoughts of his next round would invade his mind. His father, Dell Curry, played the game as a hobby, and at a young age, Steph was hooked.

Although he admitted that golf was right behind his love after basketball, Steph also said that he has also been involved in huge NBA games, including five NBA Finals, but that he’s even more nervous about golf tournaments.

“I played in the NBA Finals, I played in the world championships and I played for the United States team,” Curry told Bleacher Report’s Adam Kramer in November. “I’ve played in a lot of big games. There’s no comparison to how nervous I was on the first tee, standing with other pros, trying to compete.”

The mental strain that the game of golf might put on you is different from that of a team sport like basketball, but golf is a major fixation for Steph and he has built a reputation for his game on the links.
